Moving to Winter Garden, FL: The Complete Family Guide for 2026

If you’re thinking about moving to Winter Garden, Florida, you’re not alone. This charming city has become one of the most desirable places to live in Central Florida, attracting families looking for beautiful neighborhoods, excellent schools, outdoor activities, and a strong sense of community.

My family and I actually lived in Winter Garden for about a year, and even after moving away, we still find ourselves returning regularly. There is something special about this city that keeps drawing us back.

Whether you’re relocating from another state or simply moving within Florida, here’s what you should know before making Winter Garden your new home.

Why Families Love Living in Winter Garden

One of the biggest reasons families choose Winter Garden is its location.

Depending on where you live, you can be just minutes from Walt Disney World. My family lived in the Overlook community, and one of our favorite things was being only a few minutes from Disney’s Blizzard Beach and a short drive from the Disney parks.

The Overlook neighborhood offered a wonderful family atmosphere, beautiful homes, community amenities, and a pool that made Florida living even more enjoyable.

Another thing we loved was how new everything felt. New restaurants, shops, and businesses seemed to be opening all the time. The area continues to grow while still maintaining the charm that makes Winter Garden unique.

For families looking for convenience, safety, and a high quality of life, Winter Garden checks all the boxes.

If there is one place that truly captures the spirit of Winter Garden, it’s Historic Downtown Winter Garden.

This is honestly one of my favorite places in all of Central Florida.

The brick streets, beautiful landscaping, local shops, outdoor dining, and family-friendly atmosphere create a sense of community that is difficult to find elsewhere.

One of our family’s favorite traditions is spending a day downtown, walking around, visiting local businesses, and enjoying everything the area has to offer.

Local Favorites

One place we always enjoy visiting is Rosallie Le French Café. Whether you’re stopping in for coffee, pastries, breakfast, or brunch, the atmosphere is charming and welcoming.

Another must-visit is Scoops Old Fashioned Ice Cream. On warm Florida afternoons, grabbing an ice cream and strolling through downtown feels like the perfect way to spend time together as a family.

I also love browsing Adjectives Market, a unique boutique filled with home décor, gifts, and beautiful finds that perfectly match the charm of Winter Garden.

The downtown market area is another favorite destination. You can find Brazilian açaí, delicious food options, local vendors, and one of my absolute favorite treats: freshly made chicken empanadas served with a flavorful cilantro sauce.

Live Music, Festivals, and Community Events

What makes Downtown Winter Garden even more special is the constant lineup of community events.

We’ve attended Oktoberfest downtown and had an amazing time. Throughout the year, there are festivals, live music performances, seasonal celebrations, and family activities that bring residents together.

One of my favorite experiences is sitting outside on a beautiful Florida evening while listening to live music and enjoying a locally crafted beer from one of the area’s breweries.

It’s the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay longer than planned.

Outdoor Activities and the West Orange Trail

For active families, Winter Garden offers endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

The West Orange Trail is one of the city’s biggest attractions and a favorite among residents.

Whether you’re walking, jogging, biking, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll with your family, the trail provides beautiful scenery and a safe environment for outdoor recreation.

We’ve spent many afternoons walking and biking through the area, and it’s easy to see why so many residents love this lifestyle.

For families with children, having access to trails, parks, playgrounds, and outdoor spaces is a major advantage.

Community Life And Unexpected Encounters

One of the most unexpected moments we’ve had in Winter Garden was meeting Dave and Jenny Marrs from HGTV’s Fixer to Fabulous.

Long before we bought our home, owning a house that we could truly make our own was a dream of mine. After Brian and I got married, that dream became something we shared. We worked hard, saved, and looked forward to the day we could finally create a home for our family.

Along the way, we spent countless evenings watching Fixer to Fabulous, gathering ideas and inspiration from the beautiful renovations Dave and Jenny created. Their show helped us imagine what our future home could become and gave us hope that one day we would have a place to call our own.

That’s why it felt so special when we unexpectedly met them while having dinner in Downtown Winter Garden. They were simply enjoying time with their family, and for a moment, it felt surreal to meet people whose work had inspired us during such an important chapter of our lives.

What made the experience even more meaningful was how kind and genuine they were. Even though they had never met us before, they welcomed us with warmth, took time to talk with us, and made us feel completely at ease.

Dave and Jenny, thank you for being so gracious, sweet, and approachable. You may not have realized it, but your work inspired a dream that meant so much to our family. Meeting you was a memory we will always treasure.

It’s one of those moments that reminds us why we love Winter Garden. Even on an ordinary evening downtown, something truly special can happen.

Healthcare and Family Convenience

Another reason Winter Garden is attractive for families is access to quality healthcare.

Having modern medical facilities nearby provides peace of mind, especially for parents with young children.

The area continues to expand its healthcare services while maintaining convenient access to specialists and hospitals throughout Central Florida.

Schools and Education

Families relocating to Winter Garden often cite schools as one of their top priorities.

The area offers strong public school options, charter schools, and private schools, making it easier for parents to find the right educational fit for their children.

Combined with safe neighborhoods and a strong sense of community, the educational opportunities help make Winter Garden an excellent place to raise a family.

Why We Still Love Coming Back

Even though we no longer live in Winter Garden, it remains one of our favorite destinations in Central Florida.

Some of our family’s favorite memories were made here—from everyday walks downtown to special celebrations like my baby shower, which we hosted at a local restaurant in the heart of Winter Garden.

The city has a way of making people feel welcome. Whether you’re enjoying an ice cream, exploring local shops, attending a festival, riding bikes on the trail, or simply relaxing with family, Winter Garden offers a lifestyle that is both exciting and comfortable.
